While on the long flight from the Philippines to Utah, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The main characters are enjoyable, the side characters are hilarious, and the music throughout the movie is delightful.

 

I liked this movie!  I did not fully understand the incredible amount of pressure Jesse Owens faced at the 1936 Olympics. What a hero!

Random thoughts and experiences from this past week:

We watched this movie and liked it. 

I memorized the words to the hymn "For the Beauty of the Earth," and have been saying them over and over. The lyrics have helped me recognize my blessings.

The talks suggested in Come Follow Me have been outstanding and have helped me see things clearly.

The celestial room of the Payson Temple is very beautiful! The grandeur and peacefulness calmed my soul.

I saw faith in action this week as callings were extended to individuals who, because of life circumstances, exhibited trust in the Lord in accepting these callings. 

I heard meaningful tributes by four sons at the funeral of their father.

At a viewing on a stormy night, I saw two men carry in an elderly gentleman as he was too feeble to walk from his car into the building. Their service touched me, and the desire of the elderly gentleman to want to go to the viewing to show love and respect to the family of the deceased.

I celebrated with a family history specialist when we added names to two families on Family Search. 

After a busy day of Church meetings, we met our college-age son in a car by his church building, and enjoyed sandwiches from a cooler and visiting.

I received the flu shot and a Covid booster and woke up in the night with sore arms, but I can deal with that small inconvenience. 

I tied another quilt for the refugees with sheets from my parent's home. I smile because my parents would love to know their sheets (in good condition) are being used to help someone else.

 Three movies that I have watched recently and liked:

We watched this movie last night and really liked it. Jean Duardin won a Golden Globe and an Oscar for his acting in this movie. The movie soundtrack is marvelous and I am listening to it again right now.

Last night we watched Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier in the 1940 version of the movie "Pride and Prejudice."  It was absolutely delightful.

 

An assortment of things to be grateful for this week:

A son graduated from BYU with an MBA! However, graduation was of necessity very low-key.  I dropped off a pie and congratulated him:( But this is to be a positive post, so I will not mourn the loss of pomp.

Studying the words of King Benjamin in the Book of Mormon.  What a marvelous, humble, faithful man!

The blossoming trees are gorgeous, as are the views of the mountains.

Painting baseboards for the basement.

Watching "The Hundred-foot Journey." I know, I know--this movie is not new, but we are slow at watching movies, if ever.  We really enjoyed it.

And we tried a new place that was recommended to us--Moochie's sandwiches.  Yes, the marinara on the meatball sandwich is delicious!

This movie was recommended to me and we finally watched it the other night. We thoroughly enjoyed it.  Here's a great line from the movie:

In the last year I have watched several old movies that were recommended to me. Here's what I have seen:

 

I liked this mystery with Rex Harrison and Doris Day.  

I would not have guessed the ending.

I bet you have seen it. 

 Funny to have "Perry Mason" as the bad guy! 

This show heats up at the end.

This show produced much discussion between Matthew and I.  

Oh the consequences of our choices!

  I liked the book (Mama's Bank Account) and the movie, 

especially the star--Irene Dunne.

This show portrayed a family with messy relationships, 

but there were some winning lines at the end.

Father: What was it you wanted that I couldn't buy for you?
Son: You can't buy love!
Father: The place, the money, and every rotten thing is yours.
Son: I don't want money.  It's a waste.  It's worthless.  I never wanted your place or your money.  All I wanted is a father.  I wanted you to love me.  You gave us things--all the junk, but not love. The men who build empires die and empires die too.  What's the good of living if you don't have something to believe in?  You own us but you don't love us.

Father: I've got the guts to die.  What I want to know is if you've got the guts to live?

There's one thing you can't buy in any market on earth, that's your life.  You can't buy your life when it's finished.

Two other movies with psychological twists are "A Streetcar Named Desire" (it drove me nuts because the lady is nuts) and "Vertigo" with a plot that will take you by surprise.

I really like this movie--the funny scenes with the tuba, the dialogue with the butlers, and especially the courtroom scene.  I like Mr. Deed's judgment and integrity.
