At the last General Conference (April 1025), Elder Bednar and Elder Holland both spoke masterfully on the Atonement:

In truth, we cannot be good enough or measure up relying solely upon our own capacity and performance.  Our works and desires alone do not and cannot save us.  After all we can do we are made whole only through the mercy and grace available through the Savior's infinite and eternal toning sacrifice.
(Elder Bednar)

We cannot earn our way into heaven; the demands of justice stand as a barrier, which we are powerless to overcome on our own.

Do we understand our indebtedness to Heavenly Father and plead with all our souls for the grace of God?  When we kneel to pray, is it to replay the greatest hits of our own righteousness, or is it to confess our faults, plead for God's mercy, and shed tears of gratitude for the amazing plan of redemption?

Salvation cannot be bought with the currency of obedience; it is purchased by the blood of the Son of God.

We obey the commandments of God out of love for Him!
(Elder Holland)

Oh how I love these words.  I know that as hard as I try, and as obedient as I try to be, that it is only through the mercy and grace of the Savior that I can be saved.
