This morning Matthew and I attended a Stake Conference in Layton, Utah. A counselor in the Stake Presidency recited this original poem at the conclusion of his talk. His wife sat in the audience with their six children, ages six through eighteen. I loved the poem and with his permission am sharing it.
Let God Prevail!
By Robert Ormsby
Prophets past and in our day,
Foretold the lives we live.
A race with hurdles, miles ahead,
Effort yet to give.
What’s possible in coming days?
The devil’s curse contrived.
And only with the Spirit’s guide,
Will meek men long survive.
Veiled smiles, eyes in pain,
Countless cancelled plans.
Talk of Jesus coming soon,
Hope to feel His hands.
Some have lost the ones they love-
The cold, unyielding tomb.
Wishing we could see His face,
Temples, empty rooms.
Wisdom, stature, God and man,
Growing day by day.
Lonely children all around,
Who want their friends to play.
Early mornings, scripture time
Occasional complaints.
“Come and follow Me!” He said.
By this you make them Saints.
Kneeling as a family,
Bread and cup in hand,
Longing for our health and peace,
Trying to understand.
Stagger forward,
step by step Doing what God said.
Vaccinations, summertime-
Finish line ahead.
Eternal is the Good Lord’s name,
Eternal life to give!
Who will rise to follow Him?
His righteous laws to live.
Safe is God’s society,
Full of love and free.
Clean and pure who enter there,
With all our family tree!
He comes, to save, our Comforter,
No force on earth assail.
We pledge ourselves, in covenant,
We'll let our God prevail!
