Deor Jorgensen gave an excellent talk yesterday in church. She used three analogies during her talk that I am still thinking about. Here is the first--in art, perspective is a way of drawing objects that are close to us large, and objects that are far away from us smaller. She likened perspective in art to perspective in life. Sometimes the things we are facing in life now seem very large and out of proportion. We need to step back and look at the complete picture and realize that there are things ahead in life, beyond the situations we are facing now. A correct perspective gives us confidence in our actions.
Some people feel like we are puppets on a string with no agency, being led by God, but that is not correct. We have our agency. If we willingly give our strings to the Master, we will be led by Him.
The final analogy Deor used was a person lost in a maze. When you are lost in a maze, your view is limited and you can only see the walls around you, and sometimes you come to a dead end. God is able to give us instructions to guide us through life's maze. We need to look up to the person who can give us directions and listen to Him. God can help us avoid obstacles if we trust Him and follow.
What a blessing it was to be at church and be able to worship together.
