Me Thinks

Today is our anniversary. It has been a wonderful journey thus far and I am filled with love for a loving, supportive, faithful, and enjoyable husband.  

I read a book this past month by a friend of mine who is a very talented poet. These lines about marriage are from a poem by Elaine Christensen titled, "A Color You've Never Seen": 

I never dreamed that when two people come together,
their arms full of wildflowers,

twenty years later trees are growing…

            arms, roughened bark,

            fingertips blooming each spring,

            fruit filling eyes and ears with sweet juice.

Wind has done much damage,

lightning has left long scars,

but our feet have grown roots

in such a maze of attachments and tangents,

that neither knows any more

how to be separate
