I'm liking this book.  Let me share with you what I read today:

American mothers and their children give greater weight to ability as a determinant in their child's academic performance compared to Chinese and Japanese mothers, who place more weight on effort.

Asian Americans are more likely than Americans generally to believe in the primary role of effort in getting ahead.  The Academic achievement gap between Asian and white students is explained by differences in effort rather than differences in cognitive ability or class.

There is involvement of Chinese and Japanese mothers, fathers, and older siblings in children's academic activities. It is a collective family strategy of mobility.

A teacher said, "A lot of people think that Chinese people are smarter. No, they are not smarter.  They're paying attention and they do their homework.  You look at the regular kids, and it's not that they're dumb; it's just that they don't put in as much effort."
