Here are some lines from an article in the June Ensign by David Marsh:

"While we enjoy learning and receiving inspiration at church, we cannot rely solely on that for our spiritual nourishment."

"I enjoy learning the gospel at church, but I get more excited about the gospel when I discover inspired insights during my personal study."

I agree with these statements.  The reading I do for the Sunday School lessons always leads to thoughts and many times, none of those thoughts/subjects are covered during the lesson on Sunday.  This is acceptable and to be expected as the teacher reads the same material and has different impressions and thoughts.  The Sunday lessons are great and important nourishment, but my personal reading is paramount.  So it goes for reading the General Conference talks, the Ensign each month, the Relief Society manual and any other personal studying I do.  I am bolstered by the testimonies of others, I learn from each and every Sunday lesson, but the foundation of my testimony has been built by personal study.
