Today I start a Statistics class at the BYU Salt Lake Center. Why am I so nervous about it? It's not like I haven't taken a college class before, but it has been years since I have taken math. My mind was racing yesterday with nervous anticipation and so I decided to write down a sheet of one-liners to calm myself. Logan said, "You're making a bigger deal of this than it is." That became the first one-liner on the list.
Here is what I wrote down to calm my nerves and pump me up:
You're making a bigger deal of this than it is.
This is something you've wanted to do for a long time.
This class is not the end.
You're not majoring in this.
This is a step on your way to a goal.
You don't have to get an A.
Be cheerful.
Smile.
You are not afraid of work.
You are not afraid of hard things.
JaLee took this class and survived. (and she went on to get an MBA)
Laurie took this class last fall and survived. (and she went on to graduate from BYU)
You have a mind that works.
You have the opportunity to take this class.
You are not a single mom.
You are not working full time.
Be grateful.
Don't give up.
Plow through.
Be happy.
This is an adventure and you need adventures in life.
