I loved listening to Elder Scott speak.  He reminded me of my father--calm, resolute, full of conviction, and his messages penetrated me.  I am going to miss him.  Here are some of the things he said in the last five years that impressed me:

Choose to converse with your Father in Heaven often.  Make time every day to share your thoughts and feelings with Him.  Tell Him everything that concerns you.  He is interested in the most important as well as the most mundane facets of your life.  Share with Him your full range of feelings and experiences.

Family prayer should be a nonnegotiable priority in your daily life.

Feasting on the word of God each day is more important than sleep, school, work, television shows, video games, or social media.  You may need to reorganize your priorities to provide time for the study of the word of God.  If so, do it!

Fill your life with service to others.  As you lose your life in the service of Father in Heaven's children, Satan's temptations lose power in your life.

Many voices from the world in which we live tell us we should live at a frantic pace.  There is always more to do and more to accomplish.  Yet deep inside each of us is a need to have a place of refuge where peace and serenity prevail, a place where we can reset, regroup, and reenergize to prepare for future pressures.  The ideal place for that peace is within the walls of our own homes, where we have done all we can to make the Lord Jesus Christ the centerpiece.

Simple, consistent, good habits lead to a life full of bountiful blessings.

We need to trust in the Lord and in His timing that a positive response to our prayers and rescue efforts can occur.  We exercise faith and remember that there are some things that must be left to the Lord.  He invites us to set our burdens down at His feet.

Recognize the good in others, not their stains.

We need not worry if we can't simultaneously do all the things that the Lord has counseled us to do.  He has spoken of a time and a season for all things.

Exercise, reasonable amounts of sleep, and good eating habits increase our capacity to receive and understand revelation.

Marriage is wonderful.  In time you begin to think alike and have the same ideas and impressions.  You have times when you are extremely happy, times of testing, and times of trial, but the Lord guides you through all of those growth experiences together.  Marriage provides an ideal setting for overcoming any tendency to be selfish or self-centered.

Scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high.

Great power can come from memorizing scriptures.  To memorize a scripture is to forge a new friendship.  Pondering a passage of scripture can be a key to unlock revelation and the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Ghost.

Be thankful that sometimes God lets you struggle for a long time before that answer comes.  That causes your faith to increase and your character to grow.

A consistent, righteous life produces an inner power and strength that can be permanently resistant to the eroding influence of sin and transgression.

You cannot be passive in life, or in time the natural man will undermine your efforts to live worthily.
