Yesterday my sister and I spent several hours reading letters of ancestors. We are sorting through boxes of items from the home of my parents.

I read about the excitement of purchasing a garage door opener.  No longer did my grandparents have to get out of the car in twenty-below weather to open the garage door manually.  Imagine the joy of pushing a button and having the garage door go up on its own! My grandmother used to get on her hands and knees to wax her kitchen floor.  Yikes. I read about my mother sending holiday care packages to her parents in Canada.  I knew she was sending them to her grandchildren, but she was also sharing joy with her parents.

Grandma Caroline wrote to her daughter, sharing details about a special Relief Society activity that was held in Calgary, Canada.  The details of the event made me smile:)

Theme: “Come Gather the Nectar of Relief Society and Make Honey in Your Home.”

“Clever little beehives were made of coiled rope for the table centerpieces with flowers around them, and a perky little bee’s head sticking out the top.” (maybe the centerpieces looked something like the picture below)

Refreshments were all made using honey recipes:
Meat loaf
Tossed salad (honey in dressing)
Rolls
Punch
Ice cream with lemon/honey sauce

I'm loving this journey of sorting, learning, and appreciating.
