I have been wanting to watch this documentary for a while now, and Matthew and I finally did. The content of this 80 minute video led to much discussion in our household.  Questions such as these were asked:

Do we live in too big of a house? Do we have too much stuff? Is stuff getting in the way of our happiness? Are the things we purchase (or own) making our lives complicated? Are we spending our resources wisely? Are we doing enough to help people? Are we practicing moderation? Are we wasteful? What do we need to change?

Here are a couple of important points from the documentary:

1. We live in a world of consumerism.  We need to watch ourselves or we will be pulled into the constant barrage of advertising persuading us that we need certain items.

2. Things do not bring happiness.  Again, check yourself to see if you equate what someone (or yourself) owns to greatness.  It is not what someone owns that makes them great, but what he/she does with their life.

3. People are more important than things. Love people and use things (and not the other way around).

4. We often purchase more than we need.

5. We can be strong and not buy into what everyone else is buying or wearing.  We can be happy and comfortable without having everything that our neighbor does. In fact, some people feel great peace in simplifying their lives and abandoning much of the stuff they own.
