From the book Racism Without Racists: Color-Blind Racism and the Persistence of Racial Inequality in America, Eduardo Bonilla-Silva states:

There is a strange kind of enigma associated with the problem of racism.
 No one, or almost no one, wishes to see themselves as racist;
 still, racism persists, real and tenacious (quoting Albert Memmi)

Whites think minorities are responsible for whatever race problems we have,
and that they should think less about it, work hard, and complain less.
Regardless of what whites think, racial considerations shade everything in America.

Race is a socially constructed category.
Racial categories are subject to change.
Race has a social reality.
