This week a giant of a man passed away and he is going to be missed by many. He passed suddenly and we are shocked and saddened by the loss. Because I have been good friends with Janet for years, I have come to know her husband Craig and I have been very impressed with him in every situation. He was a devoted son, husband, and father. He was a gentleman and showed great love and respect to those he loved. Janet has shared with me some of the thoughtful things he did for her. Craig was not a showman. He went about doing good in a quiet, non-boastful way. He was handy and hard-working.
When Janet and I were helping with the Oakcrest camp, Janet had a large assignment to organize the Camp Opening and Camp Closing days where dozens of volunteers from participating stakes showed up to help clean and/or winterize the camp. Janet is a supreme organizer and had the places, jobs, and volunteers assigned out, and working right beside her was Craig. This was not Craig's calling and yet he jumped right in and helped out, multiple times. He came and helped on stake treks, and at several stake camps. He served for many years with the scouts and he most recently was serving in the Ward Bishopric.
These are adjectives I think of when remembering Craig Cox: loyal, helpful, unselfish, faithful, true, devoted, smart, wise, supportive, steady, handy, and kind. The way he lived his life perfectly aligned with the values he held most dear. I am grateful to have known him and learned from him.
