We went on a hike during Girl's Camp. The girls were eager to get to the top of the hike because they had their swim suits on under their hiking clothes and they looked forward to jumping in the hot spots at the top of the canyon. Their camp leader pushed the pace and encouraged the girls to run up every hill so that they would get there even faster. There was one camper who could not run up the hills. She did a remarkable job of hiking as fast as she could but she was way behind the group. It was my pleasure to walk with her and talk with her and rejoice when she made it to the top! It was good for me to have the opportunity to evaluate the characteristic of patience in myself, and to stay behind when a part of me wanted to go ahead. Every leader took a "turn" with this special young woman and the way the leaders serve her touches me.
