We have looked at a lot of pictures of cathedrals in my Human Civilization class this week.   The detail is extraordinary!  The refracted and illuminating light that poured in through the glass windows was to represent the light of God.  During the Gothic period, almost every inch of the cathedrals (including the stained glass windows) was decorated in detail, ofttimes using scriptural stories or allegorical symbols.  I am in awe of the artistry.
