A mother's ways of nurturing is the strongest and most consistent predictor of a child's development. Her emotional availability to her child, her ability to respond positively, without being overly intrusive, lays the foundation for a child's social-emotional health and cognitive development for the rest of their lives.
From a 75-year Harvard study dubbed the "Happiness study", we learn:
While it is possible to recover from a painful childhood, memories of a happy childhood are a lifelong source of strength.
Hats off to the mothers of young children. Your days are tiring, your routine can be monotonous, and your applause is little, but your work is very important. You are shaping and molding the lives of your little ones. You are teaching and nurturing them and your efforts will pay dividends for years to come. You are providing a consistent, stable, loving environment for your children and when children are given that sure and solid base in their lives, they flourish and grow. Though the days sometimes seem long, the years fly by and before you know it, your children will be grown. Be willing to give them what they need and deserve when they are small. Be willing to "work in the garden" day after day, having faith that your work will produce results. Though there is happiness at the end of the road, there is also happiness along the way and I hope that you find things that bring you joy, in the stage you are in right now. You are doing an important work! I applaud you!
