So I am glad not that my loved one has gone,
But that the earth she laughed and lived on was my earth, too.
That I had known and loved her,
And that my love I'd shown.
Tears over her departure?
Nay, a smile
That I had walked with her a little while.
(When Barbara Bush's daughter Robin died, someone gave her this quote)
Death is a part of life. It is a fundamental, basic part of our eternal lives. We can't go on with the great work that lies ahead without stepping over the threshold of death, sorrowful as it is for those who remain. I am satisfied that it is a beautiful experience for those who make that step, who have lived lives of righteousness and faithfulness.
(President Hinckley, funeral services for Harry V. Brooks, Feb. 23, 1996, reprinted in the Church News)
