"I find it interesting that the meanest life, the poorest existence, is attributed to God's will, but as human beings become more affluent, as their living standard and style begin to ascend the material scale, God descends the scale of responsibility at a commensurate speed."
Maya Angelou in I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Random House)
So, if we have problems, if life is not going well, and if things are tough, then we say that God has sent trials into our lives, but if things are going well and the path is smooth and we are successful, then we take the credit! Do we do that? Could it be that a lot of the problems that we experience are brought on by ourselves or by the actions of other people and are not "sent" from God, and could it be that when we are successful or when things are going smoothly in our lives, that it is a direct result of the Lord's blessings, intervention, and/or watchful care? How much does He do for us that we don't realize? How many blessings come our way that we do not give Him credit for? How much of what we think we have earned or deserve comes from His goodness?
God the Father and His son Jesus Christ are good and merciful and kind. We are blessed beyond what we deserve. If prayer is uttered for no other reason, it can be a simple "thank you" directed to the heavens, acknowledging the help and blessings that we have been given.
