(Adoration of the Shepherds by Gerard von Honthorst, 1622)
Oh Blessed Babe
By Sue Neimoyer
Oh Blessed Babe, Oh Holy Child,
A humble infant born within a stall,
The tiny son of Mary mild,
He was the Savior, the Redeemer of all.
And so the heavens rang with angel songs,
Glad tidings filled poor shepherd's hearts with joy.
A brilliant star rose in the sky anew
To show the light of hope lay in this baby boy.
Oh Dearest Lord, O Savior Kind,
The weak knees of my heart kneel at thy side
My careworn soul is filled with awe
When I recall it was for me thou didst die.
Oh hear my simple voice sing praise to thee!
O may my words and deeds reflect thy love
And help my stumbling feet to follow thee
That I may one day come to live with thee above.
